01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Taking a seat at the counter and watching the chef shape each piece with rhythmic precision offers an easy, relaxing charm. Situated in a Kameido alleyway, Sushi Koichi (寿し 小市) is a neighborhood sushi restaurant serving satisfying nigiri and chirashi in a calm, welcoming setting. Though the space is compact with limited seating, its warm atmosphere makes it easy for solo diners to stop by comfortably.
For anyone visiting this restaurant, the omakase course is an ideal place to start, featuring a notably generous selection of sushi. The steady succession of pieces keeps the meal engaging, from rich cuts of otoro and chutoro tuna to melt-in-the-mouth simmered sea eel (anago), silver-skinned fish such as sardine and mackerel, squid, prawn, and tekka maki rolls. The rice pairs smoothly with every topping, allowing individual highlights to stand out clearly, such as squid seasoned simply with salt or deeply savory horse mackerel.
In the evening, pairing nigiri with a glass of chilled sake provides an unhurried, leisurely way to dine. During lunch hours, the shop is also known for its well-garnished chirashi bowls, laden with tuna, sea bream, salmon roe, and eel. Because the counter-focused room has a limited number of seats, securing a reservation in advance is advisable for dinner visits.
